Home Networking and Whole Home WiFi

Every smart device, camera, television and work call in the house depends on the network, and a single router in a basement corner was never going to cover it. We design and install home networks that work in every room, stay up through outages, and keep the house's systems separate from the family's devices.

Who this is for

A dead zone problemAccess points placed for the building, a wired backbone between floors, and a network that finally reaches the bedroom, the office and the deck.
A propertyFiber to the outbuildings, dozens of access points, segmentation for cameras, automation, guests and staff, cellular failover, battery backup and monitoring, built to carry a full smart home.

We work with everyone, small or big. The scope changes with the project. The standard of the work does not.

Why the network comes first

Most smart home problems people describe to us are network problems wearing a costume. Shades that do not respond, cameras that drop, music that stutters in one room, a video call that freezes in the office. Fixing the device rarely helps because the device was not the problem.

We treat the network as infrastructure. Access points are placed for the structure, thick walls, chimneys and long halls included, rather than for where there happened to be an outlet. A wired backbone connects floors and outbuildings. The result is coverage that reaches the whole property and performance that holds up when the house is full.

Segmentation, security and guests

The cameras, the automation system, the family's laptops, the smart television and the guests' phones should not all share one flat network. We separate them so that a compromised gadget cannot reach your computer, a guest cannot see your cameras, and the automation keeps working no matter what the kids download. It is standard practice in a business and it belongs in a home.

Firmware stays current, remote management is secured, and you get documentation of how it is all laid out.

Staying up when the power or the internet goes out

A battery backup on the network closet keeps the internet, the WiFi, the cameras and the automation alive through a short outage and buys time in a long one. A cellular connection that takes over automatically covers the case where your provider's equipment down the street has failed. For a property that sits empty part of the year, that combination is what lets a freeze alert or a camera event actually reach you.

Builds, renovations and finished homes

If you are building, get the structured cabling in before drywall. Cable to every television location, every access point location, every camera and every room you might ever want wired costs very little then and a great deal later. We work with builders and electricians on prewire from the framing stage.

In a finished house, a well designed wireless system with a few strategic cable runs through the basement or attic gets nearly all the way there. We tell you plainly what is practical.

Common questions

Is a mesh kit from the store good enough?

For a small apartment, often yes. For a larger house, a house with plaster or masonry, or any home with cameras and automation, usually no. Consumer mesh systems relay traffic wirelessly between nodes, which halves performance at every hop, and they offer no way to keep the cameras separate from the laptops.

What does a proper home network cost?

A well designed system for a typical home starts in the low thousands installed. Larger properties with outbuildings, many access points, failover and backup scale from there. We quote in writing with equipment and labor separated.

Can you fix my existing network rather than replace it?

Often. We start by looking at what is there and why it is failing. Sometimes the fix is placement and configuration. Sometimes the equipment is the limit, and we will say so rather than selling you around it.

Do you support it afterwards?

Yes. We offer remote monitoring and support for home networks so that most problems are seen and fixed before you notice them, and we are reachable when something needs a person.
