Cybersecurity Services for Small and Mid Sized Businesses

Practical security for businesses that cannot afford a breach and cannot afford a security department. We assess where you actually stand, close the gaps that matter most first, and keep watch afterwards, with everything written down in language an insurer or a client auditor can read.

Who this is for

A small businessMulti factor authentication everywhere, endpoint protection that is watched, email filtering, tested backups and a short written policy. The controls that stop the attacks that actually hit small companies.
A regulated or growing companyA gap assessment against a recognized framework, managed detection and response, a written information security program, vendor risk, incident response planning and the evidence to pass a client or insurer questionnaire.

We work with everyone, small or big. The scope changes with the project. The standard of the work does not.

Start with an honest assessment

Before anyone sells you a tool, you should know what you have, what is exposed and what would hurt most if it failed. We assess the environment against a recognized framework, typically the CIS Controls or NIST CSF 2.0 scaled to your size, and we give you a written picture with the findings ranked by risk and the fixes priced. That document is yours whether or not you hire us for the work.

The controls that stop real attacks

The attacks that hit small and mid sized businesses are not exotic. They are a stolen password, a convincing email, an unpatched device and a backup that was never tested. The defenses are correspondingly clear: multi factor authentication on every account that supports it, endpoint detection and response on every device, email filtering and impersonation protection, patching that actually happens, least privilege access, and backups that are offsite, immutable and restored on a schedule to prove they work.

We implement those in priority order, and we watch them afterwards. A managed detection and response service means an alert at two in the morning is seen and acted on rather than discovered in the morning.

Compliance and the questionnaire

If a client, an insurer or a regulator is asking you questions, we help you answer them truthfully and then close the gaps between the answers you gave and the ones you wanted to give. We work with businesses subject to state data protection rules, PCI DSS for card handling, HIPAA for health information and CMMC for defense supply chain work, and we are clear about which parts are an IT job and which parts need your attorney.

A written information security program, an incident response plan and a vendor inventory are the three documents most small businesses are missing. We produce them with you, sized to the business rather than copied from an enterprise template.

People, not just software

Most incidents start with a person clicking something, so training and phishing simulation are part of the program. Short, regular and not condescending. We also make sure the people who would be on the phone during an incident know what to do and who to call, because a plan nobody has read is not a plan.

Common questions

What is a cybersecurity assessment and what does it cost?

It is a structured review of your environment against a recognized framework, with the findings ranked by risk and the fixes priced. For a small business it is a modest fixed fee and takes a couple of weeks. You receive a written report you can hand to an insurer, a client or a board.

Is managed detection and response worth it for a small company?

If you hold customer data, take payments or would lose real money from a day of downtime, yes. The cost is now within reach of businesses with a dozen people, and the difference between an attack caught in minutes and one found in the morning is the difference between an alert and a ransom.

Can you help with a cyber insurance application?

Yes. Insurers now ask specific questions about MFA, EDR, backups and email security, and the answers affect both the premium and whether a claim is paid. We get you to a position where the answers are yes, and we document it.

Do you only serve certain states?

No. Cybersecurity is delivered remotely to businesses across the United States. We also understand the state level rules, such as Massachusetts 201 CMR 17.00 and New Hampshire RSA 359-C, that apply when you hold data about residents of those states.
